New Septic System Installations

Septic System Installations

At Red Dirt Septic, we’re not just dabbling in aerobic systems. We install more septic systems than anyone in Oklahoma – by a long shot.  So, if you’re searching for septic system installers in Oklahoma you have come to the right place. We install every type of septic system approved by the DEQ (Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality) including conventional systems, aerobic systems and lagoons. We will come onsite to determine which type of system best fits your property, at no charge.  You can learn more about each septic system type below.

Our Commitment To Your Project

We’re committed to the long-term performance of your septic system. DEQ regulations require two years of warranty and maintenance of your new aerobic system (every 6 months) at no charge. Unlike most installers in Oklahoma, we fulfill that requirement on every installation and offer a continuing maintenance program after year 2 to ensure the proper operation of your system for life. At Red Dirt Septic, we won’t cut corners. Careful system layout and proper installation using quality materials are essential to ensure worry-free operation.

About On-Site Reviews

A Red Dirt representative will meet you onsite to discuss the layout of the system and installation procedures. That discussion should include the following:

  • Where to locate the tank(s), sprinklers and control panel
  • Identify any utilities or other items that might affect the installation
  • What to do with leftover dirt (leave, spread or haul)
  • Discuss options for settling of dirt around the tanks
  • Ensure that the tank truck can access the installation site
  • Projected installation date (always weather permitting)
Electrical Requirements

Most aerobic systems require a dedicated 110 amp electrical disconnect on a 20-amp breaker.

Installation Timeline

Typically, aerobic installations are completed in one day. On some occasions our cover-up crew may finish the installation on a second day. When we replace existing systems, your home is usually out of sewer service for less than half a day.

Understanding Lawn Repairs

Expect to replace sod in the area of the installation. We’re bringing in heavy equipment and excavating a lot of dirt. We will smooth the soil as neatly as possible, but expect to see a large area of dirt around the installation site.

Managing Sprinkler Systems

Heavy equipment operators can not avoid digging into irrigation lines and sprinkler heads. We will try our best to identify damaged sprinkler lines or components, but plan on calling your irrigation company to make any necessary repairs and test the irrigation system.

Tank Settlement

It is normal for dirt to settle around tanks. Only time and weathering can fully compact the soil around tanks. We highly recommend backfilling around the tanks with sand at the installation when possible. While sand will still settle, the effects will be minimal in comparison.

Follow-Up Visits

We want to meet the homeowner after installation for an orientation on the system. Please call our office to arrange a time and date.

Aerobic Septic Systems

Aerobic Septic Systems

When lot restrictions and poor soil conditions demand something other than a conventional lateral system, aerobic systems often offer the best solution. Red Dirt Septic is proud to be an authorized Jet Systems installer. Jet Systems developed the very first aerobic system almost 70 years ago and still leads the industry today with an advanced system that is superior to other systems in the market. High quality water treatment and component reliability make the Jet System our choice in aerobics. You can check out the Jet System, view more here.

Aerobic Installation

Homebuilders and homeowners often learn all the integral elements of an aerobic installation after the installer has come and gone, failing to complete the job. Our goal is to completely finish the installation to the highest standards, anticipating that we will maintain the system for the life of the home. We want to educate you on all of the facets of an installation so all expectations are met.

Conventional Septic Systems

Conventional Septic Systems

When a good absorption field is available, a conventional septic system is often the most efficient and economical septic application.

Signs Of A Good Absorption Field
  • At least 4 ft. of good leaching soil, free of limiting clay or rock layers, well above the water table
  • Level and gently sloping elevation with good drainage
  • Large, open area with no trees and good vegetation cover
  • Area that is free of vehicle/equipment traffic and future building projects

The Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), requires a soil test (Form 581) to determine the type and size of system that will accommodate the daily flow or anticipated water usage. A certified soil tester can use a perc test or soil profile to determine the capacity of the soil to absorb water. Contact Red Dirt for help locating a soil tester in your area.

Lateral Systems

A Lateral System is a type of conventional system that is approved in Oklahoma. This system includes the traditional perforated pipe and gravel, and the innovative chamber system.

Evap-Transpiration Absorption Systems

Evap-Transpiration Absorption Systems (ETA) is another type of conventional system. When a test reveals that soil does not ‘perc’, an ETA system may be the best option. ETAs are constructed by adding washed sand and good topsoil to conventional lateral lines.

When Lateral Systems Fail

The life of a lateral system can range from 20 to 40 years depending on several factors including soil conditions, system capacity compared to usage and how the system was maintained. Remedies include:

  • With an approved soil test in the expanded absorption field, DEQ regulations allow homeowners to make modifications by adding lateral lines to an existing lateral system to increase absorption capacity. The original lateral lines must remain intact and functional. Add-ons can include pipe & gravel lines, chambers, or an ETA.
  • When existing lateral systems have little or no capacity and new acceptable ground is not available to install enough lateral lines to meet current size requirements for a new system based on the daily flow. This can result in a total soil replacement—soil test required.
  • Historically, many conventional lateral systems were installed in poor absorbing soils characterized by high clay and rock content. When additional space or favorable soil is not available, an aerobic system may be the best septic solution.

Prior to investing in a septic system upgrade, make sure there are no impediments to the function of your existing system. Check the sewer and feed lines for breaks or clogs. Inspect household fixtures for leaks. We recommend a food color test for toilets. To trigger this food color test, you can simply and food color to the tank and see if it bleeds into the bowl.

Popular FAQ’s

Can I maintain my own aerobic septic system in Oklahoma?2026-05-12T10:05:42-06:00

While homeowners are responsible for the system’s health, Oklahoma regulations often require certified professionals to perform the mandatory maintenance inspections required by the DEQ to ensure environmental safety.

What are the best conventional septic installation options for homes in central Oklahoma?2026-05-14T08:55:23-06:00

The most reliable conventional systems incorporate:

  • High-quality concrete or poly septic tanks
  • Properly engineered lateral lines sized to the soil profile
  • Accurate elevation and drainage design to ensure correct flow

Red Dirt Septic’s systems exceed DEQ specifications and prioritize long-term system reliability.

Is a septic system warranty transferable to a new homeowner?2026-05-12T09:44:25-06:00

Yes. According to Oklahoma DEQ rules, the mandatory 2-year warranty is fully transferable to new homeowners if the property is sold within the warranty period, ensuring the system remains covered by the original installer.

Can overusing water damage my septic tank?2026-05-14T08:53:26-06:00

Yes. Septic tanks have a finite daily capacity. When too much water enters the system—such as from running multiple heavy appliances simultaneously—the tank cannot process the waste effectively. This causes solids to overflow into the drain field, leading to clogs and structural strain.

What is the typical cost of an aerobic septic maintenance plan?2026-05-12T10:09:26-06:00

At Red Dirt Septic, standard maintenance coverage typically costs less than $1 a day, with average estimates around $175 per visit or $350 per year for preventative care.
